Trojan horse one to follow at Musselburgh
Trojan Sun returns to a familiar hunting ground when aiming to reclaim the feature Portobello Cup Handicap at Musselburgh on Tuesday.
Jim Goldie’s gelding, who belatedly began his racing career as a four-year-old, won this 3600m contest in 2024 and has been a consistent sort over his 33 starts.
Four of his six victories have come on the Edinburgh coastal course and he eases down in grade after finishing in midfield during a valuable Goodwood handicap last month.
He drops 6lb for that run and is back to a workable mark, which is boosted with Paul Mulrennan in the saddle.
Mulrennan could have an entertaining day in Scotland as Monhammer targets a course-and-distance hat-trick in the Aab Group and Bibby Financial Services Handicap.
Linda Perrett’s eight-year-old has been revitalised this season, finishing with place honours on two occasions in addition to his last two victories.
He came out on top by a neck here in July and repeated the trick earlier this month, with Mulrennan aboard on that occasion.
Monhammer climbs only 3lb in the rating for that length success and could have some wriggle room for another bold bid on his favoured track.
Dialstone has finished second in both starts so far and can put that experience to good effect in the Celebrate National Racehorse Week Restricted Novice Stakes at Linfield.
Ralph Beckett’s son of Time Test was beaten only a head on debut at Ffos Las before coming up against an impressive sort in Rebel Romance’s brother Fortitudine in his second outing at Kempton, with the Godolphin runner charging to a massive 21-length success.
The three-year-old was the best of the rest by 1.5-lengths and a return to 2000m – the distance of his debut – is another positive.
Also noted on the all-weather is Ollie Sangster’s hat-trick-seeking Musical Soldier who was a game winner on turf at the Surrey venue last time and now has the assistance of Billy Loughnane in search of the Follow @attheraces On X Handicap.
At Stratford over the obstacles, Brian Ellison’s Letmeseethecolts can build on two promising performances in the Celebrate National Racehorse Week 2026 Mares’ Maiden Hurdle.
The former Flat operator was runner-up on his hurdles debut at Cartmel and backed that up when third at Uttoxeter last time out.
Few horses have had a greater time of things over the summer than Beorma and Dan Skelton’s thriving seven-year-old can bring up a phenomenal eight-timer in the George & Dragon Handicap Chase.
Up more than 30lb since starting her winning run in late May, she in fact registered all seven victories in the space of 23 days.
Refreshed since then and having shown no sign the handicapper was beginning to catch up with her in her most recent success, she could pick up from where she left off.
Skelton is also the man to follow in the Allsopps Loves Stratford Handicap Hurdle where Getmyfriend can follow up a win at Newton Abbot now sent handicapping. – Press Association
