The 2026 World Cup is underway and this weekend is peppered with great TAB soccer bets that comprise a range of challenging matches including eight games from the biggest international soccer tournament staged on planet earth. And to add to the excitement there are two R200,000-added Soccer 10 bets and a R5.23-million carryover Soccer 13 with a guaranteed all-13-correct jackpot pool of R10.5 million!

PLAY TAB’S SPECIAL R25,000-ADDED SOCCER 6 POOLS

All in all it’s a fantastic weekend to play a few TAB soccer bets and then sit back and enjoy the best international football around. And if you make the right choices in your bets, you could suddenly find yourself with more cash than you ever believed possible.

Don’t forget that TAB is running a special Soccer 6 on each of the 12 groups in the tournament. Each group Soccer 6 comprises the six matches in the group with each pool closing at the kick-off of the first game in each group.

Each of these special Soccer 6 pools starts with a R25,000 add-in from TAB, which guarantees an inflated payout and makes them well worth playing. Obviously, the Group A pool has already closed, but the Group B and D Soccer 6s close tonight so don’t miss out.

BAFANA MAKE A HASH OF OPENING MATCH

Unfortunately, Bafana Bafana made a poor start to the tournament. In a repeat of the 2010 World Cup in this country, they took on Mexico in the opener and didn’t play anywhere near the level we managed 16 years ago. Overly defensive, sloppy and directionless, they went down 2-0 to the co-hosts and finished the game two players short as a result of a couple of stupid fouls that both resulted in red cards.

That puts them under huge pressure from the word go and they now need to beat the Czechs, who lost their first game against South Korea, next Thursday to have a realistic chance of avoiding an early flight home.

The highlight of the weekend will be Saturday evening’s game in which South American giants Brazil go up against current African champions Morocco in New Jersey in Group C.

Morocco’s status as the kings of the continent has a question mark against it. The Atlas Lions only won the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in the courtroom, having lost the final to Senegal on the pitch.

A Confederation of African Football Disciplinary Committee upheld Morocco’s appeal as a result of several Senegal players leaving the pitch for a while towards the end of the 90 minutes in Rabat in protest at a penalty awarded to Morocco.

Senegal, who then “won” the final 1-0 after extra time, have lodged an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which will have the final say on the matter.

BRAZIL MAY HAVE THE EDGE IN WEEKEND HIGHLIGHT

Whatever the outcome, there’s no doubting that Morocco are an excellent football team, who stunned the globe four years ago when they reached the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Meanwhile immensely successful club coach Carlo Ancelotti has taken the reins at Brazil as they look to win a first World Cup title in 24 years.

There is a lot of experience in this Brazil side, ranging from Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson to PSG defender Marquinhos and until recently Manchester United midfielder Casemiro. And Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jnr will add spark up front, along with Barcelona’s Raphinha.

So perhaps Ancelotti can sprinkle his magic coaching stardust over the team, but there does seem to be a little bit of the traditional Brazilian magic missing from this 2026 side.

It should be a closely-contested game but all things considered Brazil are fancied to have the edge.

Tips for each of the 12 groups at World Cup: Group A – Mexico; Group B – Switzerland; Group C – Brazil; Group D – Paraguay; Group E – Germany; Group F – Netherlands; Group G – Egypt; Group H – Spain; Group I – France; Group J – Argentina; Group K – Portugal; Group L – England.

As for the country most likely to win the 2026 edition of the world’s premier football tournament, it’s hard to look past France who are dazzling at best.

Top banker bets for the R200,000-added Soccer 10s tonight and tomorrow are a draw in the Canada-Bosnia clash and a win for hosts USA over Paraguay, with wins for Brazil and Switzerland looking the way to go tomorrow.
