It’s back on Polytrack at Fairview

For the third consecutive week the planned Friday meeting on the turf at Fairview has been transferred to the Polytrack because of the rain.

Hopefully it will not have too much effect on the chances of some of Alan Greeff’s runners.

The best of his two runners could be Slash ‘N Burn in Race 5 and Homing Pigeon in Race 7. Jockey Richard Fourie will be aboard both those runners.

Homing Pigeon takes on seven other rivals in the Wedgewood Handicap over 2400m. The Hawwaam filly has been very consistent since blinkers were applied, and she has already won twice in just four starts at this course.

She was a wide-margin winner on her local debut on a soft track over 1600m back in March. The second runner that day, Missouri Flame, has won since. The three-year-old filly did score on the Polytrack over 2200m in April when Fourie was riding her for the first time.

Homing Pigeon was beaten last time out at short odds, finishing third behind stable companion Green Isle over the Fairview Polytrack over 1900m. This longer distance does look ideal for her.

Blinkers have also clearly made a difference to her stable companion Slash ‘N Burn and he could win Race 5, a MR 74 Handicap over 1200m.

The Irish-bred gelding scored in his sixth start, which was in a handicap at Kenilworth over 1100m. A three-point penalty followed that win and it was a solid performance from him as he gave a filly that has won a couple of times this season 4.5kg and a beating by a head. Fourie has ridden him in all of his starts, and now he makes his local debut.

Greeff could also win the last race with the filly Kleinzee. Kleinzee is unbeaten in two starts. Both were on the Polytrack and were narrow wins, but it is noticeable that Greeff has given the ride to 4kg apprentice Eduan Muller.
