Punters can put the lights out at Scottsville

Jack Milner

The better bets on Wednesday’s card at Hollywoodbets Scottsville appear to come up in the early races, but once one gets into the exotics, and the Pick 6 in particular, bankers look hard to find.

The best bet appears to come up in Race 1, a Maiden Juvenile Plate over 1600m, where Mike and Mathew de Kock send out Putthelightsout.

This son of Gimmethegreenlight has run three times, and despite finishing unplaced on debut over 1400m at HWB Greyville, he got too far behind after jumping from No 12 draw but was still able to produce the fastest time for the 400m to finish.

In his second run, Putthelightsout showed the expected improvement to finish second, and although beaten five lengths, winner of that event was Vibe Check, who last Saturday went on to win the Grade 2 Golden Horseshoe over 1400m at HWB Greyville.

Putthelightsout went on to start favourite for his third start, which was over 1600m on the Polytrack. Again he produced the fastest 400m to finish but could only manage fourth place, beaten 2.85 lengths by Place Of Practice.

Just five days after that run he was bundled off to the vet to be gelded.

He makes his comeback in this event and unless there is a top unraced runner in the field, this De Kock-trained runner should be able to put the lights out on his opposition. He should be a BiPot banker on this eight-race card as he is likely to be the first raced horse home in this field.

Callan Murray takes the ride and he jumps from a very decent No 2 draw.

If one is looking to take a chance in a highly competitive Pick 6, it could be worth going with Salani Kahle in Race 6, a B Stakes over 2000m. This three-year-old Master Of My Fate colt is trained by Gareth van Zyl and has only raced five times. After finishing unplaced on debut he went on to win his next two races before running a disappointing fourth in his following start over 1750m at Scottsville.

He was examined by the course vet who found nothing untoward.

His next run was in the Grade 2 TAB SA Derby over 2450m and there was plenty of talk for him. However, he found one too good in Curious Girl to whom he was conceding 2.5kg.

Salani Kahle has a lot of improvement to come and despite carrying 62.5kg, this Sean Veale-ridden runner could be better than his rivals.
