Peter set for strong finish at Turffontein

Jack Milner

Tony Peter has some decent young horses in his yard and three of them will be put to the test at Turffontein on Monday when they race on the Inside track.

For a midweek meeting, bettors will enjoy this nine-race card which sees a number of promising youngsters in action.

However, Peter could have the final say at the meeting where he sends out Heath House in Race 7, The Bronx Bull in Race 8 and Hat’s Mambo in Race 9.

All three are loaded with ability but will be fully tested on the Inside track against their elders.

Heath House is probably one of the fastest horses around and if we had races over 600m he would be unstoppable.

However, he is highly talented but is not the easiest of horses and will race around the turn for the first time.

It is hard to guess which way it will go for him because if gets around the turn without wasting too much energy and then gets away in the straight, he will be a very hard horse to beat, especially at this stage he is a 1000m specialist.

He will have the services of Kyle Strydom who has ridden him twice and knows of what he is capable so the two-year-old son of Erupt will get all the necessary support from the saddle.

Heath House is also trained at Turffontein, so Peter is sure to have tested him on the track.

This race is a Middle Stakes and there are some better weighted runners in the field based on merit ratings, but he will carry 2kg less than when winning last time out.

Highly regarded The Bronx Bull can provide Peter with a race-to-race double in Race 8 a MR 84 Handicap over 1200m.

The son of Buffalo Bill Cody returns from elite juvenile company after finishing fourth in the Grade 1 Gold Medallion at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. That form reads exceptionally well in the context of this handicap debut against older rivals.

Drawn perfectly in gate No 1, The Bronx Bull receives a valuable opportunity to showcase his potential. He remains open to significant improvement and could easily prove better than his current rating. If reproducing anything close to his Grade 1 effort, he should take plenty of beating and provide Calvin Habib with another winner.

Hat’s Mambo may not have felt comfortable early on in his first outing on the Polytrack at HWB Greyville last time but he did run on well enough in a Class 4 Handicap over 1400m to finish a 2.30-length third behind Klein Karoo.

In Race 9, a MR 76 Handicap over 1450m, the three-year-old son of Hat Puntano meets a field he looks quite capable of beating and should run well jumping from No 4 draw.

Marco van Rensburg takes the ride once again.
