Georgian Sigma set for Happy Valley success

Pierre Ng-trained three-year-old gelding Georgian Sigma looks poised to break through when he lines up in the Class 4 Handicap over 1200m at Happy Valley on Wednesday.

With two placings from three starts, Georgian Sigma boasts strong form around talented types such as Salon S and Eve Luck, with the former winning four of his five career starts. The son of Shalaa finished second and fourth in his first two outings in Restricted Class 4 company before resuming with a solid third over 1000m at Sha Tin last time out, where he showed good early speed and fought on well, though fitness may have told in the concluding stages.

Returning from a 52-day break, Georgian Sigma has won a recent trial comfortably and looks well placed in a field lacking depth this week. With further improvement expected, he should prove hard to run down.

Three-year-old gelding Tycoon Resources looks well placed to notch back-to-back wins in the Class 4 Handicap over 1000m.

Tycoon Resources had impressed in trials before making his debut 42 days ago, and punters were quick to take notice, backing him heavily on the night. The son of Written Tycoon showed sharp tactical speed early, settling perfectly on the leader’s back before unleashing a strong burst from the 300m mark. He then dug deep under pressure to hold off his challengers, scoring by half a length over this track and distance.

He faces a similar assignment this week and, importantly, remains in Class 4. With natural improvement expected from just his second start and plenty of upside as a progressive three-year-old, Tycoon Resources looks capable of proving too strong again.
