FASHION IN FOCUS AT YARMOUTH
By Ashley Iveson, Press Association
John and Thady Gosden send plenty of high-class prospects to Yarmouth and it would be no surprise to see Fashion People go on to bigger and better things if she can double her tally at the Norfolk track in the Branfords Restaurant & Bar Fillies’ Novice Stakes.
Plenty was expected of this daughter of Mehmas on her racecourse introduction at Newcastle in November, with strong market support seeing her go to post as an odds-on favourite.
She duly delivered at Gosforth Park, beating a subsequent winner in Heart Beats True without being asked any serious questions.
Fashion People transitions to the turf on her return to action and she is expected to defy the mandatory penalty before having her sights raised.
Golden Horse catches the eye in the Download The At The Races App Handicap.
The four-year-old won once from three starts last year for William Haggas and while he was well held on his final appearance of 2025 at Newmarket in September, that may not be a bad thing as he now makes the move into handicaps.
Haggas appears to have his string in good early-season form and Golden Horse may prove significantly better than his opening mark of 79.
James Owen’s Ammes has to be of interest as he reverts to the Flat for the Racing TV Free Trial Handicap at Redcar.
The four-year-old developed into a fairly useful middle-distance performer on the level last season, with a novice success at Chepstow followed by some solid efforts in defeat, including a sixth-place finish in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot.
After being gelded, Ammes switched to the jumping game in the autumn and won his first two starts with the minimum of fuss before being touched off by the subsequent Triumph Hurdle third Minella Study in the Wensleydale Juvenile Hurdle at Wetherby.
He came up short at the Cheltenham Festival last month and when tested at Grade One level at Aintree recently, but he remains lightly-raced on the Flat and there
could still be mileage in his mark of 89.
With an official rating of 85, Hungarian sets a decent standard in the Join
Racing TV Restricted Novice Stakes.
Although winless in four juvenile starts, the son of Starspangledbanner did
keep good company and was not beaten far in a couple of valuable sales races.
It will be a little disappointing if he is unable get off the mark on his return to action.
The Start Racing TV Free Trial Now Fillies’ Novice Stakes represents a good opportunity for Egotistical to break her duck.
The Acclamation filly has picked up minor honours on each of three previous starts, most recently placing third on her turf debut at Nottingham.
It could be that this quicker surface will see Roger Varian’s youngster in an even better light and she has already shown enough to suggest she is up to winning a minor race such as this before going handicapping.
Popular veteran Bob Olinger can land the Ladbrokes Champion Stayers Hurdle on day three of the Punchestown Festival, while Arkle runner-up Kopek Des Bordes should outclass his rivals in the Barberstown Castle Novice Chase.
