Dixon’s Master Du Rouvray can claim the Michaelmas

Jack Milner

The Michaelmas Handicap (Non-Black Type) over 1900m is the feature event on the nine-race card at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday and trainer Mark Dixon looks to have a very strong hand.

There were 11 horses carded to run in this event, Race 7,  but there have been two scratchings in Mohave Prince and Go Grayson Go.

Dixon sends out Master Du Rouvray and Cleartherunway and they could well fight out the finish. The former disappointed last time when well supported to win his comeback run following a two-month layoff. He went off favourite but proved no match for stable companion Cleartherunway who led from start to finish.

That last race was in a five-horse field which was moved from the turf to the Polytrack following heavy rains in Durban and was run at a pace that would have made the Cape crawl look a Formula 1 race.

A shrewd ride from Calvin Habib saw him able to sucker the rest of the field into allowing him to dictate at his own tempo and once he kicked away in the straight, nobody was able to catch him.

Master Du Rouvray was unable to quicken and ended up at the back of the field, beaten 6.55 lengths,

Jockey Keagan de Melo did report that he felt something amiss late in the race but the course vet was unable to find anything wrong.

Hopefully, whatever was niggling the five-year-old Master Of My Fate gelding has been sorted out and he can come back to notch up another win now back on the turf. He is 2.5kg better off with his stablemate and should be able to reverse the form.

Both De Melo and Habib will renew the rides on the their respctive mounts.
