Zinovi to shine as Fairview moved to Polytrack

Bad weather has once again affected a race meeting at Fairview and a decision was taken to move Friday’s meeting from the turf to the Polytrack.

They have had rain over the past few days and more was forecast, with penetrometer readings going between 37 and 52 around the bend and on the back straight.

There have been a number of withdrawals due to the change of surface so one does need to check.

There are three features on the card and this could have an impact on Race 5, the Lady’s Slipper Stakes over 1400m for two-year-old fillies, where Kelly Mitchley-trained unbeaten Marchland has been priced up favourite.

However, she is untested on the surface so one needs to be cautious, although she must have worked on the track. Muzi Yeni rides again.

Of her opposition, Obsidian Star is proven over the course and distance having won her last start. She is trained by Sharon Kotzen and will be ridden by Chase Maujean.

However, the move to the Polytrack could well suit Alan Greeff-trained Zinovi in Race 6, the Fairview 1400. This five-year-old gelding has won five of his last seven starts and could hardly have been more impressive in his warm-up for this event on the Polytrack. The drop to 1400m should not really be an issue.
