The Swan Song to go one better than his debut run at Greyville

The Justin Snaith juggernaut continues to roll at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday when there is a nine-race card on the Polytrack.

After the thrill of last week’s Hollywoodbets Durban July ebbs away and excitement towards the Gold Cup meeting on 26 July starts to build, this Sunday’s meeting is somewhat mundane. Snaith is not a great fan of the Polytrack but he does realise that some horses do improve on the surface and he has three runners in action at this meeting.

Best of the trio should be The Swan Song who lines up in Race 2, a Maiden Plate over 1200m. This Trippi colt is one of five two-year-olds in the field which has been reduced to six horses as a result of two scratchings. As both of them are older horses, this is almost a Maiden Juvenile Plate.

The Swan Song has raced only once, finishing a 2.40-length second behind Bison Warrior over 1000m. There are three factors to take note of. That race was on the Polytrack, The Swan Song was slowly away and had the fastest time for the final 400m

He will be more experienced this time so hopefully he does not lose ground at the start and should benefit from the additional 200m this time.

This is an apprentice race and Snaith has engaged Sifiso Bungane for the ride and he will take a further 2.5kg off his back, which means he will carry just 54.5kg.

Of course, as this is an apprentice race all but one runner will benefit from a weight reduction. Trent Mayhew no longer has a claim so Queen Of Denmark will carry the carded weight.
