Tarry, Zackey to double up at TAB Turffontein
Jack Milner
Trainer Sean Tarry is a master of timing when it comes to getting his horses to their peak at the right time, and one can see from recent results that his runners are almost ready to pounce.
Last Saturday he may only have had one winner but a number of others ran second or third, not beaten by far.
He has eight runners in action at TAB Turffontein on Thursday and five of them will be ridden by champion jockey Craig Zackey.
Zackey too is in top form and showed his prowess by riding half the winners on the eight-race card at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Wednesday.
In fact, Tarry and Zackey could open and close the eight-race card on the Inside track with Amberforgo and Lightinthewoods respectively.
Amberforgo is by Chimichuri Run, a horse trained by Tarry and one very close to his heart. This three-year-old filly made her debut over 1200m at the Vaal on 17 September and drifted in the betting from an opening call of 7-2 to go off at 25-2.
She suffered the misfortunes that often happen in debut runs, losing ground at the start and racing green, and ended up too far back. Nevertheless, she did manage to produce the fastest 400m to finish and ended in fourth place, beaten 3.40 lengths by Steel And Satin.
That run should have brought her on nicely and with Zackey aboard this time and nicely drawn in gate No 2, she could find her way into the No 1 box when she contests the Maiden Plate over 1200m.
She does take on the boys but has the benefit of a 2.5kg weight-for-age allowance.
It is hard to fault the form of Lightinthewoods. This three-year-old daughter of Gimmethegreenlight has raced six times for two wins, two seconds a third and a fourth place. Both of her win shave been emphatic and she was probably a tad unlucky not to win last time when she finished well to land up a 0.75-length third behind Raptor King last time. That race was over the same course and distance as tomorrow’s event and she had to take on male rivals. This time she will line up in Race 8, a MR 73 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1450m so she will be taking on her own sex, jumps from No 1 draw and drops significantly in class.
She looks to be one of the best bets on the card and is worth making her a banker in the exotic bets.
