Take a Chinwag in the Cape

Considering the time of the year, bettors will be faced with an interesting nine-race card at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday.

With the 2026/27 season just starting out, many horses are rested after a long winter season and ahead of projected campaigns for later in the year.

But there are some promising youngsters beginning their careers and one of those is Chinwag.

Trained by Michelle Rix, the three-year-old daughter of Talk Of The Town lines up in Race 3, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1600m. As a juvenile, Chinwag ran four times and after having placed fourth on debut over 1200m, she finished three successive thirds, getting closer with each run.

Even though still a maiden, her last start was in the Listed Irridesence Stakes over 1500m at Hollywoodbets Durbanville where racing at level weights, she ran on strongly to finish third behind 6-10 favourite Grapes Of Wrath, going down just 0.90 lengths.

She was also impeded by the winner close to the post and had to be steadied, so she actually performed better than the official result reveals.

Chinwag will be having her first race as a three-year-old and dropping significantly in class she looks hard to oppose.

She comes into this race as the best weighted runner by at least 5.5kg, jumps from No 3 draw and will have Callan Murray in the irons.
