Snaith and Fourie to fire early in the Cape

Jack Milner

Trainer Justin Snaith and jockey Richard Fourie have always been a good team and they can get punters off to a great start at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Wednesday as they can capture the first two races on the card.

There are some unraced horses in both races but it is always an advantage to have a run or two under their belt and that is the case with African Kingfisher in Race 1, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1000m.

This daughter of Kingman has run twice, her first at HWB Kenilworth on 15 August where she drifted significantly in the betting and ran accordingly. She raced greenly for much of the race and then started hanging out.

When she made her second appearance, which was over 1250m at Durbanville on 23 September, one could see she had learned a lot from that race. She also probably preferred racing around the turn as she led from the off and was only caught in the dying strides by Georgie Girl, going down just 0.20 lengths.

The two key changes this time are the drop to 1000m and the engagement of Fourie for the first time. Jumping from No 3 draw she should get the run of the race and should be hard to stop.

Race 2 is a Maiden Plate over 1400m and this time Snaith and Fourie team up with Rain In France. This Futura filly is a half-sister to Wilgerbosdrift Triple Tiara winner Rain In Holland has only had one run. She kicked the gate on debut at Kenilworth over 1200m on 12 August and raced greenly.

She lost her way during the race but then finished powerfully to finish fourth, beaten just 1.65 lengths by Ile Moris.

This time she goes further, which will undoubtedly work in her favour, and will have benefitted from the experience.
