Scratching of Rich Man’s World could leave Sands in hot waters

The scratching of Rich Man’s World from the Cape Classic has opened the door for Aquae Calida to claim the Grade 3 race over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Sunday.

Trainer Vaughan Marshall pulled Rich Man’s World out of the race on Saturday morning as his runner was found to be off his feed and that means just six horses will go to post for the race for three-year-olds.

It is a talented field that will line up but the fact Eric Sands-trained Aquae Calida looks to have a touch of class about him and that could make him the one to beat.

The son of Vercingetorix out of brilliant race mare Bela-Bela has only raced three times, finishing second on debut behind reopposing Kalahari King on debut and then went on to win his maiden by five lengths. Both those runs were at this track.

He then contested the Grade 3 Langerman over 1500m at Hollywoodbets Durbanville in June which he won with authority, beating Hero’s Journey by 2.50 lengths. Interestingly, he had Kalahari King more than seven lengths behind him.

A bigger threat is likely to come from Red Spice who produced a potent finish to run this in the Grade 1 Premiers Champion Stakes and HWB Greyville in July.

Craig Zackey has been aboard Aquae Calidea, who names translates as hot waters, in all of his races and he will be aboard once again.
