SALAM DUBAWI CAN STRIKE REDCAR GOLD

Redcar’s famous Racing TV Zetland Gold Cup Handicap takes centre stage on Bank Holiday Monday where Salam Dubawi can continue Jim Goldie’s purple patch. A double at Ayr on Wednesday was followed by a treble at Musselburgh on Thursday and Goldie can be something of a streaky trainer.

Salam Dubawi is a relative newcomer to the yard having arrived from France in the off-season and he made a rather inauspicious start in this country when last of 11 at Musselburgh last month. It obviously took him a bit longer to acclimatise because the next time he was in action he was unrecognisable, coming home unchallenged at Hamilton having been backed from 50-1 overnight to an SP of 18-1. The handicapper raised him 6lb but it could have been more and while his French form is hard to weigh up, he remains massively unexposed.

Glen Nevis ran like a horse very much having his first day at school at Doncaster and can be expected to know more about the job in the Watch Racing TV In HD Maiden Stakes. The fact he had already been gelded by Charlie Johnston suggested he was not altogether straightforward and he was slowly out of the stalls. He was off the bridle early enough but continued to find for pressure and pushed one with previous experience all the way to the line.

William Haggas seems to excel with offspring of Sea The Stars and he has another from John Oxx’s great champion in Sea Canary in the Fitzdares Telephone & Text Betting Maiden Stakes at Windsor. Those who have run hardly set an exalted standard and while it is unusual for a horse to make its debut over a mile and a half, there is plenty of stamina in her pedigree.

Trefor has disappointed since winning a valuable pot at York last summer but with Tom Marquand in the plate for the first time, can bounce back in the Fitzdares Sprint Series Handicap.

At Leicester, Luna Celeste looks poised to build on her seasonal debut in the Picnic At The Races Day Restricted Maiden Fillies’ Stakes.

Tom Clover’s Kodi Bear filly was beaten less than a length last time out at Southwell and can go one better when making her turf debut.

Simon and Ed Crisford’s Jazl fairly bolted up at Windsor last time out and may have been let in lightly by the assessor in the For Best Ticket Deals Book Online At Leicester-Racecourse.Co.UK Handicap. A beaten favourite twice in two runs last season, he was gelded after the second of them and looked a different proposition on his first run at three. It did not look the strongest of races on paper, but he could do no more than what he did.

Jimmy Moffatt loves nothing more than winners at his local track Cartmel and his Dusky Days is developing a reputation as a bit of a course specialist. Tailed off on his return at Hexham, he can be expected to put up a much better display in the second division of the Johnny & Tony Connell Memorial Handicap Hurdle.
