Muzi to kick off with a win at HWB Durbanville

There appear to be a number of promising bets on the eight-race card at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Wednesday.

Of course, the problem with Durbanville is that all races are run around the turn and draws are of paramount importance.

Of course, there is an old maxim that good horses can win from any draw, but it does make life a lot easier for the jockey if he lands a low numbered barrier position.

With that in mind, we will be hoping to get off the mark with a win in Race 1, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1250m, where we will side with trainer Andre Nel and a very in-form Muzi Yeni.

The popular jockey rode two winners on Saturday at Turffontein, another two at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday and then another two at the Vaal yesterday. Five of those six winners he got up in tight finishes with only one winning by more than a length.

That good run can continue when he gets aboard Captain’s Elect, a three-year-old daughter of Vercingetorix, in the opening event.

She has only raced twice, finishing a five-length fifth on debut over 1000m at Durbanville, while last time she was beaten 1.50-lengths into second behind Red Flag over 1200m at HWB Kenilworth.

Captain’s Elect did have excuses on debut as she was forced to ease 400m from home but those two races will have brought her on nicely and jumping from gate No 1, she could prove very hard to oppose this time.
