Mega weekend ahead

TAB and TOTE customers can treat themselves to some of the best racing on the planet this weekend with chances galore to win loads of cash, including a R1-million Pick 6 carryover and betting into the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) World Pool tote.

The 24-hour global spectacular opens with the two-day Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Keeneland Racecourse in Lexington Kentucky at 17:55 this Friday night. The five Grade 1s for two-year-olds will be run with the remaining nine Grade 1 championship races taking place from 17:15 on Saturday.

Breeders’ Cup, first run in 1984, is arguably the best thoroughbred action on earth. Equine superstars from around the globe head to the USA to contest the 14 championship events and this year’s event has attracted over 70 foreign challengers, the second-highest number in Breeders’ Cup history.

As always, the $7-million Breeders’ Cup Classic and $5-million Breeders’ Cup Turf will be the highlights of Saturday’s meeting. South Africa will be represented by Gimme A Nother from the Newstead Stables of Jessica and Steven Gell. She runs in the $2-million Breeders’Cup Filly & Mare Turf over 1900m.

Some four hours after Friday’s Keeneland meeting, the Grade 1 Victoria Derby race meeting at Flemington in Melbourne will get underway. This is the best raceday in Australia annually and is the first of the four mega meetings that comprise the Melbourne Cup Carnival. Next up is Melbourne Cup Day (Tuesday 3 November) followed by Oaks Day (5 November) and TAB Champion Stakes Day (7 November).

Later on Saturday comes the Allied Steelrode – On a Mission Charity Mile at TAB Turffontein. This is one of the major events on the Joburg racing calendar with the R1-million topliner backed by an undercard that includes six feature races.

A R1-million Pick 6 carryover is adding plenty of excitement to the day and should generate a total pool of some R5 million!
