Kannemeyer, Zackey to Continue The Dream

Jack Milner

A first-timer with impeccable breeding will make his debut in Race 3 at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Sunday, a Maiden Plate over 1400m.

Ideally named, Continue The Dream is a full brother to multiple Grade 1 winners Gimme A Prince and The Real Prince for the same trainer/jockey combination – Dean Kannemeyer and Craig Zackey respectively, and like the other two is owned by Lady Laidlaw’s Khaya Stables.

They are all by Gimmethegreenlight out of Real Princess, both Grade 1 winners themselves.

Three-year-old colt Continue The Dream has big shoes to fill and it will be interesting to see how good he is. He did not race as a two-year-old and may have been given time to develop but bookmakers are not taking any chances and have opened him as the favourite, trading at around 2-1.

However, in Computaform, Kannemeyer has been somewhat non-committal and his comment about the chances of his charge reads “nice type, include in exotics”.

In fairness, he does have a tough task. Making a debut at Durbanville is never easy, and having to jump from No 8 draw will make his task even tougher.

Meanwhile, Confirmed had an eye-catching debut when closing briskly from a hopeless position to get near to Spinnaker. It is a concern that he was reported as making respiratory noises, but champion trainer Justin Snaith is no doubt on top of things.

Snaith also saddles Cosmic Dan, who improved in his second start to finish fourth to Havoc, in what was a false-paced affair.

Godric Gryffindor returns from a four-month break. He has run to some smart horses in a series of key maidens and if fit enough and taking to the track from a wide gate, could enter the fray.
