Kannemeyer runner can rush to victory in October

There is the old saying about saving the best for last, and that could well be the case at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Wednesday.

Trainer Dean Kannemeyer and jockey Craig Zackey have been in top form in the Western Cape, and they can add another notch to their tally when October Rush lines up in Race 8, an Open Maiden over 1600m.

This three-year-old son of Rafeef has only raced twice, making his debut over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on 28 June. This colt was sent off as the 3-1 second favourite, but he raced greenly and was well beaten, finally finishing eighth, beaten 9.60 lengths.

He was rested until 26 September when he returned to run in a Maiden over 1400m at Durbanville. He drifted out to 5-1 after opening at 28-10 but ran well enough to run a 2.50-length second to Legal Dancer.

October Rush is out of Var mare Miss October, who is the dam of seven winners, including Grade 1 champions Tempting Fate and October Morn.

Many of her progeny are confirmed sprinters but this colt looks to be well suited to 1600m and stands out as a banker in all bets.
