High Fidelity to keep Spies flag flying

Trainer Corne Spies has his yard in top form and they highlighted the good run with a quick six-day double with African Pride.

The Rafeef gelding won a Pinnacle Stakes at Turffontein on 7 June at Turffontein and then travelled to Durban to win a race at Hollywoodbets Greyville six days later. Both were over 1000m and Mickaëlle Michel rode him in both.

In Race 3 at the Vaal on Thursday, the stable looks set for another victory when they send out two-year-old Vercingetorix colt High Fidelity in a Maiden Juvenile Plate over the straight 1400m.

High Fidelity made his debut over 1160m at Turffontein and found betting support to go off at 33-10. However, inexperience proved to be his downfall and he raced greenly, eventually finishing a 2.30-length third behind Fish Tales.

With that experience under his belt couple with the longer trip this time, he could prove hard to beat.

The Mike and Mathew de Kock yard should also come away with a winner or two and the best could well be Green Machine, who has developed into one of the more interesting middle-distance handicappers on the Highveld.

The Gimmethegreenlight gelding has improved with every step up in trip, backing up a convincing 2000m maiden success with a determined handicap victory over 2400m on the Vaal Classic course under Gavin Lerena.

A four-point ratings’ increase asks a tougher question, but the manner of his latest success suggests there is still more improvement to come. If that proves correct, Green Machine can complete a deserved hat-trick when he lines up in Race, a MR 76 handicap over 2400m.

There is little between him and Samuel Sharpe, but the De Kock runner is proven over the trip and that should sway things his way.
