Greeff, Fourie to continue hot run

Jack Milner

The Alan Greeff – Richard Fourie combination is in full stride at the moment as we found out on Friday when they came away with four winners on the Polytrack at Fairview.

They return to the same track on Monday where we have an eight-race meeting and the good run looks set to continue.

As a result, they look set to provide bettors with a banker or two in the exotics and some profitable betting opportunities.

It starts off as early as Race 1 where they partner up with Rock Me Mama in this Maiden Juvenile for fillies over 1400m.

This is another filly owned by Peter Moor who has had remarkable success with his runners stabled in the Greeff yard.

This daughter of Rafeef has raced three times and has not performed badly in any of them. She has finished behind some decent fillies such as Casperita and Marchland and then put in her best effort when tried over 1400m last time and finished best of all to finish a 1.60-length third behind Malibu Ice.

Considering she hit the gate at the start and jumped slowly, that was an excellent effort and she looks ready to win.

She is out of a Silvano mare and is a half-sister to Dean Smaith-trained East Coast Girl so she should be even better over further.

Rock Me Mama tries the Polytrack for the first time but no doubt Greeff has worked her on the surface so he will be comfortable about the change. She does have a wide draw as she will jump from barrier No 10 but Fourie should be able to deal comfortably with that hurdle and this does not look the strongest of fields.

Another banker looks to be Homing Pigeon, who lines up in Race 8, a MR 76 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1900m. It took this Hawwaam filly nine starts to break her maiden, but she is clearly improving.

The three-year-old filly has progressed well at this centre and opened her account in March when a 7.25-length winner over Missouri Flame, who won just last week to frank that form.

Homing Pigeon was next seen when a gallant third behind stablemate Anotherdanceforme who showed her class in Friday’s East Coast Derby over 2200m on the Polytrack when she cruised home by 7.25 lengths, remaining unbeaten in 10 starts.

Homing Pigeon, trying the Polytrack for the first time, was successful by 0.50 lengths over San Quintin. She was always travelling well and won with something in hand. Homing Pigeon only picked up a two-point penalty for that win and really ought to beat these rivals.

Hoerikwaggo looks another for the Greeff-Fourie team and she runs in Race 4, a MR 92 Handicap. This four-year-old filly has won three of her 12 starts and has been runner-up in her last three starts. Looking at her form, it is noticeable that Fourie does get the best out of this filly, and he has been aboard her in all three of her wins.

She is suited to the Polytrack, having won once and finished runner-up twice. Those runner-up efforts were behind some talented stable companions in the form of Virgin River and Avernian Goddess. Drawn in pole position, she could get the run of the race.
