Greeff brings out his big guns at Fairview

Last Friday’s Fairview meeting belonged to trainer Dean Smith but champion trainer Alan Greeff looks ready to strike back this Friday as he has brought out all his big guns.

The meeting was originally scheduled for the turf but after a heavy downpour on the weekend with more rain predicted during the week, an early decision was made to run this meeting on the Polytrack.

But, if it all goes to plan, the combination of Greeff and Richard Fourie could be in for multiple winners.

Greeff’s first winner could come as early as Race 1, a Maiden Plate over 1200m, as his entrant, Lightscameraaction, looked an unlucky loser on debut.

The Gimmethegreenlight filly was heavily backed to win that day but found a very game rival in Dancing Amber to worry her out of it that day.

“She was a little bit green,” said Greeff. “She made up a ton of ground between the turn and the straight and looked a likely winner but found one too good. But she wasn’t beaten far and I think the third horse was 10 lengths back.

“Hopefully, she repeats that sort of run and doesn’t have anything to challenge her.”

Fourie retains the ride.

Star filly Anotherdanceforme represents Greeff and Fourie in Race 5, the Betway Friendly Stakes over 1800m.

This Master Of My Fate filly has won 11 of her 13 starts and is unbeaten in two starts on the Polytrack. Both Polytrack wins were full of merit, and she is a very short price for this.

“Anotherdanceforme is taking on mixed company for the first time, but she is a class filly and I think she’s going to be very competitive once again,” said Greeff.

Greeff is well represented in Race 6, a Pinnacle Stakes over 1200m, with the top two rated runners in Golden Palm and Splicethemainbrace.

“These two fillies are not really sprinters but Golden Palm needs the benefit of a sprint,” said Greeff. “I was hoping they would stay on the turf but it hasn’t worked out that way.

“Splicethemainbrace is also looking to get her season off. This 1200m is a little on the short side for both fillies but they are both classy fillies and nine out of 10 times class prevails.”

Golden Palm will have Fourie aboard, while Splicethemainbrace has Craig Zackey in the irons.

Luck in running might be the difference between those two runners at the finishing post.
