Frangipani returns to her favourite course

The term “horses for courses” is a popular rhyming adage in the world of horseracing and it often truer for racecourses with specific eccentricities.

They might have a short home straight or be tight turning or have undulating ground which some runners can handle more than others.

That is true of the Turffontein Inside track which suits horses that like to race up with the pace and kick away in the straight as it is hard to make up ground from the back of the field.

As a result, if you can find the right horse on the right day one can often find a bet that provides bettors with good value.

Today on the Turffontein Inside track that horse could well be Frangipani in Race 4, a MR 99 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1800m.

Trained by Robyn Klaasen this three-year-old daughter of Master Of My Fate is a two-time winner, and both of them were at this track. Those wins were also the only times she has raced at the track and looks ready to keep that unbeaten intact this time.

She comes into event with just 52kg on her back and will be ridden by Muzi Yeni whose only ride aboard her came in the Grade 2 World Sports Betting fillies Guineas at Hollywoodbets Greyville where she was well outclassed. That race was won by Wish List.

She came back to Joburg after that, contested a FM 77 Race over 2000m at this track, won that race and could well do it again.
