Ashley Fortune could get on the board with Axis Power

One of the highlights on Wednesday’s eight-race card at Durbanville is Race 7, a D Stakes event over 1000m, where seven runners will face the starter.
Trainer Ashley Fortune saddles Axis Power, who will be making his debut for her yard at Milnerton after relocating to the Mother City from KwaZulu-Natal.
Andries Steyn has entered nine-year-old Barney Mcgrew, while Paul Reeves will be represented by Country Time, a seven-year-old Time Thief mare.
All three these trainers are looking for their first win of the season and it will come as no surprise should one of them be called to the podium for the post-race interview.
Axis Power has placed in his last five races and topped the bookmakers’ boards in early betting. A formidable frontrunner he could dictate matters with Aldo Domeyer in the saddle.
Barney Mcgrew has finished runner-up in two of his last three, including over today’s course and distance last time out. Sean Veale has piloted the son of Captain Of All in his last three starts and the retains the ride.
Four of Country Time’s five career wins have come over the course and distance, so it is definitely her happy hunting ground. She has the added benefit of a 2.5kg weight reduction thanks to apprentice jockey Sifisokuhle Bungane’s claim, so she too should be right there.
It is interesting to note that trainer Greg Ennion has entered two maidens, namely El Cohete and Miss Smiley. They are joint best-weighted, so cannot be ignored, despite coming up against winners.
