A salute to Kannemeyer on the Polytrack

When horses race on the Polytrack for the first time there is always a slight doubt as to whether they will handle it or not.
Obviously if horses are trained in Durban or Gqeberha their trainers are in the advantageous position of giving their horses a gallop on the surface to assess whether they will perform to their best level, or sometimes even a better level, than they do on turf.
However, trainers based on the Highveld or the Western Cape have to use their wiles to gauge how their charges will perform.
There are, nonetheless, some trainers who have the ability to guess right at least most of the time. After all, nobody is perfect.
One of those is Dean Kannemeyer. He has taken horses from the Cape and put them straight into Polytrack races where they perform with aplomb.
Hopefully, he will be spot again at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Wednesday when he sends out Silver Salute in Race 4, a Class 4 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1800m.
This three-year-old daughter of Vercingetorix has raced eight times for two wins and two seconds. She rarely runs a bad race and her two worst were on course that do not suit every horse, HWB Durbanville and HWB Scottsville, and she has only has only run once on each.
She has run two very good races on the HWB Greyville turf track, beating Jazz Café by a length the first time and then running a one-length second behind Red Taffety. Both runs were over 1600m.
She did have some excuses for her defeat that day as she was pulling hard in a slow-run race and had her heels clipped.
She does try 1800m for the first which should not be an issue, but she does have a lot in her favour. She jumps from draw No 1 and will have Craig Zackey in the irons.
On a tricky midweek card, this filly looks to be the best bet on the card and a banker in all bets, despite facing a test on the Polytrack
